St Nicholas School

The characterful existing buildings, located in the ground of the main school, presented several challenges as well as opportunities. A rigorous design process programmed the spaces into an arrangement that celebrates the heritage of the building. New elements, such as the bathroom stalls, playfully reference the former use of one of the buildings as a stables; meanwhile in the former staff accommodation domestic features such as fireplaces and domestic proportions are retained to provide a sense of 'home'.
